Ted-Ed was Crea-Ted for Your ENGLISH Learning!!

An Interactive Tool, Ted-Ed!!

Hi everyone!! Welcome to my blog!! Today, I'll introduce you to an interactive online tool that you can use in your classroom! Ted Talk is a free presentation video service that is popular with English language learners, but have you ever heard of Ted-Ed? I have heard that the content of Ted Talk is academic and difficult, so I recommend Ted-Ed because it is easy to study for English language learning.

Advantages

The first advantage is the large number of animated video channels!!
It is not only for children, but also adults can enjoy watching, so university students and adults learning English can make the most of it for their studies. If you watch the animation and listen to the English, you can guess the content even if you cannot hear some of the English, and the unique animations are cute and exciting to watch!! And like Ted Talk, you can also use Japanese subtitles. How nice;) How helpful:)

The second advantage is that each video is only five minutes, so you can use it in your spare time before going to work or school, during breaks from work or before going to bed. As it covers a wide range of subjects, you can also choose your own areas of interest to watch. Even if you are interested in a subject, you may get bored after watching a long video, but each video is short, so you can keep your concentration!

The third advantage is that it can be used as an interactive tool!

This time, I chose 'Phychology' from amongst many genres and picked up the video 'Why parrots can talk like humans?'

First, 'Think' allows you to take multiple-choice, free-response quizzes on video of your choice.

Next, 'Dig Deeper' allows you to read texts that supplements the content of the video.

Lastly, 'Discuss' allows you to discuss the video with other users. I guess Japanese students usually do not have chances to talk with foreigners outside the classroom. But as there are no space or time limitations, if they can connect directly with English learners or users abroad through this tool, English learning can be more meaningful and enjoyable for them. I believe it is an advantage for them to be able to have authentic conversations with people from other countries while they are in Japan without having to study abroad.

Limitations

The English spoken by native speakers may be difficult to understand for young children and beginners in English language learning, but if they watch the videos over and over again and make use of the Japanese subtitles, I believe it will be beneficial for them to learn English. In addition to it, students have the advantage of being able to connect with people from all over the world, but at the same time they will be connecting with an unspecified number of people through this tool. It is essential for teachers to tell them about the dangers of online conversations with people whose identities are unknown to avoid any problems.
